If you just received your Apollo Phantom electric scooter and want to learn how to set it up and make the most out of it, follow our setup guide below.

UNBOXING

When you first open the box you should find the following items inside.

• A brand new Apollo Phantom
• A multitool
• A charger box
• A cable for the charger box.

If you purchased any accessories, please check your tracking information to confirm whether they were shipped out separately or together with your scooter. If anything is missing, get in touch with our support team immediately, and we’ll be happy to assist you. Remove the Styrofoam packaging and pull the scooter out of the box. Be sure to save both the box and the Styrofoam packaging in the event a warranty shipment is necessary in the future.

UNFOLDING

To unfold the Phantom, ensure the hook is not clipped into the rear pedal. If it is, push down on the stem and unhook it from the rear pedal.

Lift the stem up towards the front wheel. Remove the safety ring found on the side of the folding latch. Then, ensure that you push the stem all the way forward until it reaches its maximum position. Locate the folding latch and bring it up, locking the stem. The latch will require some force to lock fully upright. Lastly, make sure the latch is secured with the safety ring by putting it back in place. This safety mechanism prevents the latch from unlocking due to vibration or shocks while riding.

To fold down your scooter, simply reverse this process.

ATTACH THE HANDLEBARS

Locate the light at the top of the stem. You should see two screws holding it attached to what we call the handlebar clamp. Then, using the included Allen key, gently unscrew the two screws.

Once completed, you’ll see the light fixture come off from the clamp, revealing a total of four screws. These four screws hold the handlebar clamp in place. Unscrew all four of these screws until the front half of the clamp comes off.

Grab the handlebar and place it inside the clamp. Verify that things are positioned correctly - the throttle should be on the right.

While not necessary, if you have another person helping you with your setup, now may be a good time to ask for their help holding the handlebar still. However, if you’re by yourself, that's alright too! Simply hold the handlebar with one hand and place the clamp back in position with the other. Then pick up the Allen key with one of the screws, and gently start turning clockwise. 

Next, pick up another screw and go in the diagonal hole from the first screw. This way you will create enough pressure between the two screws to hold the handlebar securely in place.

Once you feel the handlebars are secure enough to stay in place on their own, stop tightening the screws. Adjust the handlebar to a comfortable angle. Once set, grab the remaining two screws and continue to tighten the clamp until you can no longer turn the screws.

TIGHTENING THE BRAKE/BUTTONS/THROTTLE

Grab your display, brake handles, throttle or button panels and try moving them around. Everything should be loose - We ship our scooters this way to ensure that if there is any damage during transport, the items on the handlebar shuffle around rather than break.

Tighten each of the following components to at preferred angle until hand-tight with the correct item in your toolkit:

• Left-hand/rear brake handle - use the matching Allen key on the underside of the handle
• Bell - use the Philips head (a.k.a. plus-shaped) screwdriver on the underside of the bell
• Left-hand button console - use the matching Allen key on the underside of the console
• Right-hand button console - use the matching Allen key on the underside of the console
• Key/throttle set - use the matching Allen key on the grub screw, located on the side of the set opposite from the key
• Right-hand/front brake handle - use the matching Allen key on the underside of the handle

Double-check that your throttle is not installed too closely to the brake handle. If placed too close, friction can cause the throttle to get stuck which can be very dangerous. Be sure to leave a visible gap of about half a centimeter between your throttle and brake handle.

INSPECTION

We strongly recommend that you give your scooter a quick walk around in order to check for signs of any visual or aesthetic damage.

We do our absolute best to ship our scooters safely, however, sometimes accidents during transit do happen. Therefore, now is the time to make sure your scooter was delivered safely, and if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please get in touch with either your dealer or our customer service team.

Once you’re done checking for any signs of damage, it’s time to locate the key attached to the brake line and insert it into the key ignition. Turn clockwise to power on the scooter. Then locate the M button on the right side of the handlebar and press it for 3 seconds to power on the scooter. You should now be able to see the display powered on.

Please ensure that the scooter is elevated for the next two steps, as we will be testing the throttle and brakes.

Begin by pressing the throttle. You may notice a slight jump in the motors accompanied by a sound - rest assured this is perfectly normal. What is happening is that your motors are locating their position before they are ready to accelerate.

After pressing the throttle, you should notice both wheels start to accelerate. Continue to accelerate for 5 seconds, then release the throttle and slam both brakes at the same time. Slamming the brakes adjusts the position of your brake calipers when used for the first time.

If you notice the brakes emitting repeating sounds, it’s likely the rubbing of brake pads, which will disappear after a few weeks of riding. Rubbing brake pads are not a defect, but rather a consequence of our choice to set up the brakes on the tighter side before shipping. This allows for more effective braking, and the rubbing sound will disappear within a few weeks of usage.

Press the light button and confirm all three front lights and one rear light are powered on. Then, click your turn signals to check if they work properly. Lastly, press your brakes to ensure your rear light is flashing. If at any point one of your lights does not power on, please contact us immediately. Otherwise, you’re good to go!

CHARGING

Locate the charger and assemble it by plugging the AC cable into the charger box.

Plug the charger into the wall socket first, in order to avoid any chance of sparking. Then, plug the other end into the scooter. 

When the battery isn’t fully charged, the light will be red. Once full, the charger light will turn green. We recommend charging your scooter fully prior to your first ride.

OPERATING YOUR SCOOTER

Key Ignition

An effective safety mechanism, the key ignition prevents anyone from powering on the Phantom without the key. To power on the scooter, simply insert the key and turn clockwise. To power off the scooter, turn the key counter clockwise. You can remove the key from the ignition when in this position.

Brakes

The Apollo Phantom is equipped with disc brakes in the 52V version or hydraulic brakes in the 60V version. Both of these brake systems are very similar to the bicycle brakes you are likely familiar with. To apply the brakes while riding, simply press on the brake handles. However, especially when you first start riding, we recommend that you do so slowly and cautiously, monitoring the braking force being applied.

What is unique to scooters is the rear/front configuration. The left brake handle is the rear brake, while the right brake handle is the front brake. We recommend braking using both brake handles simultaneously in order to divide the braking force between the front and rear mechanisms, rather than overexerting one.

Throttle

The Apollo Phantom comes equipped with a thumb throttle. The throttle is designed to be progressive, meaning a small rotation of the throttle will exert proportionately little acceleration. Whereas a full rotation of the throttle will trigger maximum output and therefore peak acceleration.

When starting we recommend accelerating slowly to learn the sensitivity of the throttle. Please note that acceleration strength can be adjusted in the settings.

Gear Console

The gear console located on the right side of the handlebar and consists of three buttons:

• Up
• Mode
• Down

These buttons control the display and riding gears. It is important to note that they have different functions depending on whether the buttons are pressed and held for 3 seconds, or clicked.

HOW TO LOCK THE SCOOTER

If you have a folding lock that you can loop through the diamond-shaped hole near the front of the deck, you can attach the scooter to a secured pole or bike rack. Even with a sturdy lock we recommend exercising caution and not leaving your scooter unattended for too long.
